150th Anniversary Celebration
June 11 – 14, 2026 · Ithaca, New York
Counting Down to the Reunion
Dear Brothers, Family, and Friends,
One hundred and fifty years. A century and a half of shared traditions, enduring friendships, and a rich legacy of brotherhood that stretches across generations. This weekend, we gather to celebrate not just a milestone, but a living legacy — the Chi Chapter of Psi Upsilon at Cornell University.
The All Chi Reunion is a rare and special occasion. Brothers from every era of Chi's storied history will come together in Ithaca. We welcome brothers from the Class of 1954 through the Class of 2017, along with their families and guests.
The four day event offers a chance to reconnect, reminisce, and renew the bonds that define Chi. We hope you will embrace every moment — the dinners, the conversations, the walk across campus — with the warmth and gratitude that a gathering like this deserves.
Welcome home to Ithaca.

The permanent chapter house of the Chi has stood at 2 Forest Park Lane since 1933 — a magnificent Georgian brick manor on the Cornell campus with grand public rooms, a wood-paneled library, soaring hallways, and a back porch overlooking the gorge. This is where brothers have gathered for nearly a century. This June, it is home again.
Thursday's welcome reception and dinner, Friday's BBQ lunch and cocktail hour, and Saturday's Annual Little Chi Meeting and cocktail hour are all held at the house. Come early, stay late.

The Chi Chapter of Psi Upsilon at Cornell University was chartered in 1876 — eight years after Cornell itself opened its doors — making Chi one of the oldest continuously active fraternity chapters in the United States. Over a century and a half, its brothers have shaped the university, served the nation, built great enterprises, and above all sustained a bond that endures long after graduation.
The motto of Chi, drawn from Plato in ancient Greek, says it plainly: "To us has befallen a mighty friendship." It is a simple statement, and after 150 years, no less true.

Union College, Schenectady, N.Y. — birthplace of Psi Upsilon, 1833
Psi Upsilon was founded on November 24, 1833, at Union College in Schenectady, New York — on the banks of the Mohawk River, in the same fertile soil that gave rise to the first four social fraternities in America. Seven independent and spirited undergraduates, chafing against the arbitrary restrictions of the old secret societies, resolved to form something broader and more liberal in its aims.
Their objectives, which have remained firm for nearly two centuries, were simple: the union of all its members in friendship, for the promotion of the highest moral, intellectual, and social excellence. The fraternity colors of garnet and gold were adopted in 1878 — garnet to honor Union College, gold for the badge.
Corner of Buffalo and Quarry — first Chi chapter house, 1876–1884
Cornell University was born under auspicious circumstances in 1868, with the great Andrew D. White — himself a Psi Upsilon brother — as its founding President. But it took eight years and extraordinary perseverance before Psi Upsilon established a chapter on the hill.
The effort was led by Charles H. Blair, who in 1871 began soliciting support from east coast chapters, visiting nearly all of them personally. Twice the petition was rejected. Undeterred, Blair returned to Cornell and formed the Psi U Club, gathering a core of men over four years. Finally, in 1876, with the support of Blair, Andrew D. White, Professor Willard Fiske, and other distinguished faculty, the Chi Chapter was formally chartered — becoming one of the jewels of the fraternity.

2 Forest Park Lane — the permanent chapter house of the Chi, est. 1933
The Chi Chapter made rapid progress under the impetus of its close association with the remarkable Psi Upsilon faculty members at Cornell. The year 1884 saw the construction of the first dedicated chapter house. The Chi moved through several homes — Corner of Buffalo & Quarry, then the handsome house at 1 Central Avenue — before Cornell's expanding building program forced a move.
When plans for Myron Taylor Hall displaced the chapter from its longtime location, the Chi secured what would become its permanent home: the magnificent brick manor at 2 Forest Park Lane, acquired in 1933 and occupied continuously to this day (with brief interruptions). The house, with its grand hallway, paneled library, and sweeping exterior, has been the heart of Chi life for nearly a century.
The Owl Club — the eleven brothers who reactivated Chi in 1984–85
The years 1980 and 1981 were truly the nadir of Chi history. After a slow erosion through the late 1970s, the chapter was evicted from the house and ultimately collapsed. For three years, the Chi was dormant.
The revival began in the fall of 1983, when Robert Purcell, Class of 1932, contacted his grandnephew Colin Purcell '87 — then a freshman — and asked if he would be interested in restarting the Chi. Colin gathered a small, committed group including Henry Kipp '87, Todd Fulshaw '88, Keith Howie '88, David Kim '88, and Tim Hess '88. They called themselves the Owl Club, and met every Sunday in Mary Donlon Hall to rebuild from nothing.
By the summer of 1984 the Owl Club was ready. Four delegates attended the National Convention and secured the reactivation of the Chi charter. In the fall of 1985, the Chi reoccupied its permanent home at 2 Forest Park Lane. The brotherhood was restored.

We gather this June not only to celebrate 150 years of Chi, but to renew our commitment to the brotherhood — and to ensure that the next 150 years are as remarkable as the first.
